Aum Sri Sairam

Athirudra maha yagna, Narathiri homa and Durga puja Celebrations @ SSG

Dear fellow embodiments of Sai,

It had been a wonderful, extraordinary eleven-day celebrations at  Sathya Sai Grama, consisting of Athirudra maha yagna, Narathiri homa and Durga puja. We were told that it was for the first time that Athirudra maha yagna was performed during  Dasara. In the evenings, Bhagavatha pravachanam by Badri Narayanan, an alumnus for SSSIHL, has touched everybody's heart, including Bhagavans. Swami told one day after the pravachanam by Badri that Badri had been able to mesmarize Swami by telling Him, His own stories. The most extraordinary part of the celebrations was the declaration by Swami himself the beginning of "Sathya Yuga" soon after the "poornahuthi" of the yagna, that is 23rd Oct, 2015. He also explained in His discourse what it means. Instead of getting a second hand poor description of the events I request each one of you to visit

If you can't  find time to see all, atleast watch the last day evening proceedings.
I am sure you will be as much thrilled as those present here.
May we all with our love for Swami and His creation find a place on His flight into the new yuga and experience that divinity in us. Love.

Question and Answers session on Sunday, 6th September 2015

                           Aum Sri Sairam

Q1: What is purity of thought? How can we achieve it?
Answer: Purity is the basis of everything. Selflessness is purity. There is nothing purer  than selfless thought. If you think about yourself, your well being, your welfare that is impurity. If you think about others without any expectations and without seeking any reward, that is purity. How can you develop it? Only if you have tremendous faith in God, that I need not worry about myself because God will look after all my needs, then you can become selfless. Till then, out of fear for your own self, your own future, you will never allow yourself to lead a selfless life. Therefore I say, develop the faith that Swami will look after all my needs that Swami will give me whatever is required, whenever it is required, wherever it is required, how much ever it is required at the right time. I need not even ask Swami, without asking He will give me. If that kind of tremendous faith we have, we become selfless. We will not hide and store things for the sake of protecting ourselves, our future. Everything should be ready to sacrifice for others sake, for God will look after us. This kind of faith will lead to selflessness. Only a selfless thought is a pure thought. Only a pure thought will lead to pure words. Only pure words will lead to pure actions.
What is Karma Yoga? That karma which leads you to God is Karma Yoga. Karma becomes Yoga. Only selfless acts lead you towards God therefore selfless acts are Karma Yoga. Without fear of yourself, without worrying about your future; if you can act speak and think, that is a pure life.

Q2: Swami, How can we live our daily life by recognizing that you are the doer?
Answer: Are you putting in efforts to breathe? You have eaten your breakfast and lunch. Who is digesting your breakfast and lunch? Are you putting in efforts to digest this food? From the beginning, from your birth to death, your heart and body functions on its own without anybody support. The heart goes on beating on its own, blood goes on flowing on its own.. Who is doing all these things? Without all these things can you do anything? You may be a great singer, a great speaker, a great engineer or doctor, whatever you are it is possible for you to do that only because God is looking after all these other things within you. For a moment you think like this you will know that you are not the doer. It is HE who makes all this happen so that you can acquire some knowledge, develop some skills and then become singers, doctors and engineers and lead your lives. Therefore, meditate on the breath, SoHum, I am That. Then when ego rises up inside of you, attachments trouble you, sit down in a quiet corner and concentrate on your breathing. Say "So Hum So Hum, I Am That, I am That." It is THAT which is doing this through me. Then our ego will disappear.

Q3: Swami often we start spiritual activities and service activities but then we are not able to sustain because we feel a lot of our personal priorities coming on the way. How do we manage this?
Answer: You might be getting ready for the office in the morning. You might have woken up late. Then you will tell to your wife, you  don’t worry I will have breakfast at the office. If something gets delayed at the office you may not have breakfast. But your stomach keeps reminding you. You may not be able to walk, talk or do things for lack of energy. You will at least have your lunch. Even if you are really busy and decide to miss your lunch you will definitely have your dinner. Without food we cannot live even for one day. If that is the kind of priority you give to seva then where is the question of postponing it? The way we don’t forget to eat everyday or we don’t forget to sleep, likewise we cannot forget to do seva. Make seva an integral part of your life. We may postpone it because of some other issues but ultimately we must end up doing it. Postponing is the sign of weakness. People keep postponing, postponing, postponing good work.
One day Krishna went to Karna. Karna was applying oil to his hair. In his right hand was full of oil in his left hand he had the oil resin. Krishna approached and asked him, "I want you to give me this oil". Immediately Karna extended his left hand and offered it to Krishna. Krishna only wanted to demonstrate Karnas grant sense of giving. He told Karna, " Don't you know the right tradition or manner. You should not give anything with your left hand. Give with your right hand." Then Karna told, "Lord what is there that you do not know? My right hand is smeared with oil. If I had to go and wash my hand and then come and give it to you, I do not know if my mind may change therefore I can not trust my mind. It may postpone giving this oil to you. It may think of itself and retain the oil for itself. Therefore, without losing a moment I want to give it to you. Our Minds are like this. Whatever bad is there immediately it wants to do it. Whatever is good the it postpones it. Instead, whatever is good you must do it immediately without thinking of the consequences. Whatever is bad think of the consequences and do not do it - postpone that ! It depends on you ! What you choose to do. Train yourself to do this way.

Q4: How do we involve more Alumni and motivate more Alumnai to take up your actvities?
Answer: First you be motivated ! if you are leading by example and others will simply follow. If Narayan Bhatt had not been motivated led the way do you think all these people would be around him? ! If I do not lead the life of sacrifice and service do you think that all of you would have been around me?! Therefore by talks we cannot motivate. We will frustrate people by talking more. Instead, do and demonstrate and that way you can motivate more. First you do ! Your actions will speak for yourself. Don’t waste words.

Q5: Swami you have always said that we must have a one to one relationship with you. How do we distinguish your voice from the thoughts in our head?
Answer: In this hall all of us are seated. Only I am speaking. Because only I am speaking you are able to listen. If you all also start speaking simultaneously we do not know who is speaking to whom and which is Swami's voice and which is the others. So first learn to quieten your mind. Your mind has a tendency to keep giving you bad advice all the time. If you control the mind and make it quiet, like all of you are quiet here, then you can hear the voice of Swami.
How do we quieten the mind? You see there are toys that children play with. If you put a battery in a toy car the car will keep running around and around and around. Toy train will keep moving around and around. Toy helicopter will keep flying around and around. The moment the battery is over the helicopter will fall to the ground, the train will stop, the car will not move. The energy to the mind is breath. When you breathe fast, if you take too much breath, the mind will become energised and become uncontrollable like an energetic small child. However, if you slow down your breathing, and give only so much breath to your mind  it will lose this unnecessary restlessness and calm down. Control your breath that way you will control your mind. Your mind will quieten and you will listen My voice more and more. Even when a mother is walking in the kitchen and there is so much of noise in the kitchen; the baby in the cradle even makes a slight sound the mother’s ears are always tuned to the baby voice. Despite all the noise around she is able to hear the babies cry. If you have that kind of attachment to Me you will be able to listen to Me wherever you are. Even admist all activities or a place of silence you have to go on tuning your ears to Me. There are so many musicians who play music here. Even if one note goes wrong a good musician will be able to tell. He may not be knowing what is happening with the others but even if one shruti goes wrong his ears are so tuned that he will pick it up and point it out. The same way the more you practice, by listening to My advice and quietening the mind, the more you become perfect. Practice in a silent space, like you practice driving a car in an open empty ground, so that there are no distractions. Once we have good control over the car we can go onto a road full of traffic. Even though there are so many people around you will be able to drive the car and not get distracted there. First, do some practice this way.
Secondly, even then you  have got two answers for the same  question. Remember, the one that is selfless is mine. The one that is selfish is yours. If you follow My advice the very next moment peace will decend on you. The proof of the rain is the wetness of the soil. The proof of you having followed My words is the immediate peace that fills your heart. There is no confusion. All doubts are put to rest. Try ! Unless you practice you will not be able to see the results. You may make a few mistakes initially but by constant practice you will be able to hear Me and do it effortlessly

Q6: Swami, we know that everything happens because of your wish and will. But, when something uncomfortable thing happens to us we get upset and we get into a negative mindset. How do we get out of this negative mind set and still accept that it is all your will?
Answer: Everything is Divine Will. Everything is a drama. Everything is an act written by God. If you are in India you have to follow the rules and regulations of India. If you go to America you have to follow the rules of America. In India they drive on one side of the road and America they drive on the other side of the road. You have to follow the rules of the place where you are in. You cant imagine that you are in America and drive that way in India. We have Free Will and that isone which comes in the way of Divine Will. Free Will comes in the world of duality. I tell you to do certain things, the heart tells you to do certain things but your mind comes and obstructs it. Everytime you follow the mind and be rest assured that will lead you to sorrow. If not today at least tomorrow. Therefore, always constantly follow the heart. Then you can say that it is God’s Will. So, why do I allow you to follow the mind? So that you make mistakes, you suffer, you learn from it and next time you don’t repeat the same mistake. Everytime something goes wrong, something goes bad, know that something in you is selfish, something is not Divine and that has led you to this misery. Next time by this constant practice of contemplation, concentration and meditation you will get rid of what you have done wrong. Follow your heart - it will never lead you to misery. Practice.

Q7: Swami, it is said that whatever happens to us is the effect of our Karma. But why do we have to face this effect when we do not even remember what we were in our past lives or what we did in our past lives. How do we understand this ?
Answer: In the 6th class if you are not able to multiply or divide it means that in the first class you have not done your numbers well. If you are not able to achieve something today it is because you have not put efforts towards that. A 5th class boy might say, "Why am I not able to do this?" The answer lies  that some day you did not do what you were supposed to do. That is why today you are not able to achieve this. Instead of brooding over all that past, take this opportunity of the present, correct it now and ensure that the future is better. Just because you do not remember you can not get rid of your Karma.

Q8: Educare nurtures the child with good values but what can be done for us elders to transform us ?
Answer: If you had done your job as a child correctly you may not have been asking this question ! Today, by correcting your ways you will be able to change yourself. Start with thought and think "I AM DIVINE". Speak as if you are Divine. Act as if you are Divine. If you pretend then you will end up coming back. Start thinking that you are Divine from today onwards. Shun everything - all acts, speech and thoughts that are not Divine. That way you practice. Even today there is hope that you can be corrected. Atma Jnana will come to a sincere person within no time. Just a little sincere effort will fetch you good results. Because you have not put the right efforts earlier therefore you are not what you need to be today. However, if you put the efforts  now definitely you will be transformed in the future. You will reach the goal. It depends on how fast you want to reach there.

Q9: Swami you have said that we must see God in everyone. Yet, even though we may be loving towards someone the other person may not reciprocate and may speak harshly towards us. How do we react in these situations?
Answer: If you pass one exam it does not mean that you will not get another exam. As you grow in your education your exams only get tougher. You went with the thought that you must love that person and you expected that the person should also love you. This is primary school exam. High school is when you go with the thought of loving the person and the person does not love you yet still you are able to love the person, then you have passed the High School. At the end, with no expectation you love because that is your nature, then you are in University. Everytime a person responds negatively know that you have to improve not the other person.

Q10: Swami, sometimes we feel very low in life, we keep calling out to you yet we are not getting a response. What is happening here?
Answer: You are not ready that is why you are not getting. If you are totally ready to follow My command I will give the command. If you are not ready why should I waste My words on you? If you have totally surrendered your mind and deep within you are ready to follow what Swami has got to say, not what you want to hear and then I will command. In such case do some self analysis. Find out if you are really ready to do whatever Swami wants you to do. That may or may not be what you want to do at that time. Most of the people ignore God and avoid God because they know God will tell them to do things that they don’t want to do and therefore they will not get a response.

Nobody has asked Me questions about educational institutions ! It means that you are all clear? Or you have not understood anything ! Which is true ? You are all clear? Be clear and the rest will follow. Just knowing where you want to go is more than enough. Everything else will follow. Not knowing where you want to go leads to chaos and confusion. Like Karna do not postpone the good things. Do it as and now. Do not wait for another day. I told srinivas speak to all the students today and tell them all about the work that need to be done. Afternoon when I went I saw one envelope in the hands of Narasimhamurthy. He gave me the envelope and said, "Swami, Srinivas has left a cheque behind for the education of 10 boys and girls. That is what I want! Not speaking. Srinivas said, "How can I myself go and  tell them something when I myself have not done it. Now I am giving this." I have assured Srinivas, that those children, those whose operations that are being performed in Raipur, those who are very  very poor and need help, we will definitely take them into our institutions when they grow up.

Very happy.

Go back and preserve this feeling that you have developed here. Again, if you go back and join the company of air and water, again the rust and dust will form. By being here all the ego and attachment has been removed, has been scrubbed clean. Be in the company of magnets, in the company of like minded people then you will be able to retain this Divine feeling within. Therefore, now that you have come together, work together, reach together and merge together. Don’t give up this good company. Be with like minded people.

Children of Sathya Sai Alumni Meet on 6th September, 2015

                                      Aum Sri Sairam
The Lord is the infinite one and the eternal one without any birth and death. He has neither a beginning, nor a life and nor an end. He is never born and He never dies.

Embodiments of the Divine Atma!

There is only one atma which pervades every living being. The Eternal Lord, He himself, becomes the individual soul in everybody and behaves in a human way. Out of love and affection for mankind Lord comes down to the human level and He lives with them and works with them. In truth whether it is Sri Rama or Sri Krishna or Buddha or Jesus all of them are Divine incarnations. But you may think are we not very ordinary human beings? If you are really ordinary human beings why would I address you as the embodiments of the Divine atman? My path is Truth. My path is Righteousness. The word of Sai is the eternal truth. When I address you as the embodiments of the Divine atma, it is my view that you are manifesting your Divinity through the body. Therefore, all of you men and women are Divine incarnations and you are not ordinary men and women.

But because of our ego, attachment, greed and also infatuation we behave like human beings without knowing our Divinity. When you light a lamp you can see the light, the flame burning there. When you put a glass cover on the flame, because of the lamp’s soot, you cannot see the flame. Though the lamp is burning you think you are in the darkness. When you clean up the glass cover of its black soot then you can easily see the flame burning. Though the flame of the atma is ever burning, because of the glass cover of the body consciousness, we are not able to recognize it. Since we believe that this body made up of the 5 elements is the ultimate truth, we are in ignorance, we are in the darkness, we are not able to understand the truth of our own Divine atma.

At such times the teachings of a Divine master is very important. Only when we understand the lesson properly and practice it, implement it in our life, then we can understand the Divine truth and cross over this samsara. But in today’s world we don’t have such type of masters or disciples. In the same way as a blind man leads another blind person, ignorant gurus today are trying to lead ignorant disciples.  The true guru is one who has realized the atma and experiences his own atma.

Guru is the one who removes the darkness of ignorance and lights up this flame of prajnana or wisdom of the atma. The one who leads us from the darkness of body consciousness to the light of Divine consciousness is the master. But in today’s world, education in all the educational institutions do not have the sense of spirituality. They only teach about science and knowledge not about wisdom. They are only teaching them material education not spiritual education. Therefore the students are immersed in body consciousness and they have never understood the wisdom of the atma and they are leading their lives in darkness. Because of such ignorant masters and ignorant disciples you find all kinds of trials, tribulations, adversities and hardships happening in the world.

In our institution only it is not education  given, educare is given. Education teaches us about external things. Educare is that which brings us to face to face with the inner truth. It draws out the wisdom that is inside the students and teachers. True education is atmavidya, spiritual education, therefore one should be taught to recognize the inherent Divinity.

Narasimhamurthy keeps saying that he is going around building educational institutions and campuses but this is a mistake. They are not educational campuses they are educare campuses They are the educational institutions which  grant spiritual education along with material education. We are building such great institutions. All of you should take part in these institutions and find fulfillment in your lives. I don’t like to tell all these to outside people. Our work should be done by our children not by people outside. Our family is growing. Today it is growing and finally it  will get transforms into world family.  This is Fatherhood of God and Brotherhood of man. True atmavidya is spiritual education is to broaden our horizons and to ultimately consider the whole world as our family.

If a child is hungry the mother undertakes cooking with all difficulties. For whom sake is she doing that? Is she doing that for the child? Is she doing that to remove the hunger of the child? Maybe that is true. But more than that the mother does this in order to remove her own suffering and sorrow. When the mother looks at her child being hungry she can’t sit quiet all alone. Her Love gets transformed into service and gives her child good food.

When I built the Sathya Sai University earlier a lot of people came to give me good advice. What was the advice? They gave me a bad advice telling me Swami already you have so much of work, why do you want to build this University and take the burden on yourself? If listening to their advice if I had not built the university then what would have happened to all of you? Now, you are also questioning what is the need for Swami to build the educational Institutions at this great pace? Why is Swami attempting to give health care to all the people, establishing many more hospitals? When we built the Raipur Hospital I told Srinivas that we have to start the hospital within a year. The place Raipur is full of lot of hardships and difficulties. It is not as easy to build a hospital as in bangalore. With great effort and difficulties Srinivas did quite a lot of things but finally he came and told me that within one year no surgery is possible. If your child had to undergo this surgery and the surgeon comes and tells you that he is not going to perform the surgery would you accept this? You have to think that other children are also yours. When you have so much concern with your own child you should have concern for other children too whatever the difficulty maybe - you have to do this. He understood Swami's pain and he arranged an emergency operation theatre, intensive care unit and all other facilities. The hospital is started with one operation theatre, now it has three operation theatres and in the future there will be five operation theatres.

The health care that we are granting in Raipur is so very essential that within 2 years we have performed more than 1000 surgeries. Our hospital has safe guarded and protected the lives of 1400 children. Suppose I had listened to the advice of Srinivas and permitted him to build the hospital in three or four years. What would happen to these children? Many hospitals are started and it usually takes seven years to complete and some are started and stopped in middle.. When I thought of building the Gulbarga school I told Narasimhamurthy we should complete all facilities within 6 months, admit children and give them all good education. Within one year we have to build computer labs, dining hall, kitchen and all things required for the children. If you go to Gulbarga and see what is happening there you will see how difficult it is to build an institution there. In a deserted village 40 kms from Gulbarga such a glorious and majestic building has been built. If the determination was not undertaken to build this school, could a boy be able to come from there now and talk on this stage? If we had not built the school, at that point of time, what would have happened to the future of this boy? Nobody can say. He would have fallen into bad company and spoilt and ruined his whole life. Therefore, whatever we undertake there should be a time frame that we target ourselves. Suppose we say that you would get your dinner at 12 midnight. Would you accept this? We will be feeling hungry at 8 p.m. and we will suffer as food is not given to us. I have the hunger to give this type of education and to give this type of healthcare till my hunger is satisfied. It is my will that such a thing happen within a time frame. Can we bare our own children suffering without getting admission to this kind of school or getting this type of health care? To the extent possible we have to stretch ourselves. Because my children are not yet ready I am going at a very slow pace and  If you get ready then I will go  fast. Enthusiasm, sense of adventure, courage, intelligence, strength and bravery - when all these 6 qualities manifest themselves then comes the help of God. Your effort and my Grace, when they get together all these things can be achieved.

Even like Hanuman, who was not aware of His own strength and was hesitant to cross over the ocean, in the same way you don’t know the truth of yourself and therefore you feel difficult. Similarly you identify yourselves with the bodies - you don’t know your real strength. You are therefore confining yourselves. You are not the embodiment of the body, you are the embodiment of the Divine! You have already the six qualities such as enthusiasm, valour, adventure, courage intelligence and strength, you have to put them to good use. To the extent you realize your own real strength you will be able to participate in the service activities. We have to get out of the darkness of body consciousness and get the light or wisdom of the Divine Consciousness and see to it that you work for the world's welfare.

Children of Immortality, you are the children of Immortality! You should have the kind of conduct and  behavior that should match the name. when you are born as a tiger cub and behave like a kitten it is not correct. You are cubs of a tiger! You are the embodiments of the Divine!  Therefore lead your lives with that kind of courage. You do my work and I will do your work. If you do my work with complete faith, all things belonging to your welfare I will look after. Every moment I will confer on you what is good for you. Develop that kind of belief and faith!  As Yogeswara, I am always ready. You should also become a Partha with a bow and take part in this war for Dharma.

All of you have discussed, for a long time, how to carry forward this mission and have come up with some conclusions. With one finger we cannot lift a handkerchief. When five fingers get together you can achieve great things. Today I have the courage because all the 5 campuses have come together. In one year you will see the kind of transformation take place. Since last year when we have had the Children of Sathya Sai meet till now, a lot of things have happened. From this year to the next year what things will happen you can’t even imagine.

My girls will work and do more than my boys! Because of their Shradah, sense of purpose. Woman with sincerity of purpose will attain everything. I have got faith that my girl students will do a lot of work. Don‘t think I am arranging competition, you should do it in co-operation. I don’t like competition. Everybody belongs to me. All of you should work unitedly as brothers and sisters.

Sunday Prem Deep Sathsang: 26 July, 2015

Aum Sri Sairam
BNM’s talk: 26 July, 2015 Sunday Prem Deep Sathsang.

Summary :

There is nothing Swami could not do. Something extraordinary that happened two days back .

Dr. Ramsetty and his wife Mrs. Usha Ramsetty are well known to many of the devotees of Swami. Their photos are found on the right side, as one enters indoor stadium at Prasanthinilayam. They have been praying Swami to permit them to settle down at Sathya Sai Gram, Muddenahalli. Dr. Ramsetty has been suffering some nerve disorder and a surgery was the only solution. It is a very risky operation and the success rate is very low in spite the advancements. Swami told them, when He visited US in June, that Ramsetty should go through the surgery before coming to India. With this background let us now look at the events that happened in the last two days.

Two days back BNM was travelling to Hasan in the early hours of the day. He got a call from Mrs. Ramsetty. She was crying and sobbing and informed BNM that Ramsetty’s operation was done but his condition was very critical. She had also called Madhusudan and requested him to pray Swami for them. BNM was getting updated on Ramsetty’s condition every half an hour form Arvind Thyagarajan, but no encouraging news. In fact, BNM came to know later that Ramsetty’s heart had stopped, but the doctors had not announced it yet. BNM while still on the journey, called Madhusudan to pray Swami. Then Madhu told the following.

After Mrs. Ramsetty call, Madhu prayed Swami for Ramsetty. Swami appeared before him and Ramsetty was also with Swami. Swami asked Madhu could He take Ramsetty with Him. Madhu conveyed Mrs. Ramsetty’s prayer to Swami. (GVP: I cannot recall the exact words of Mrs. Ramsetty’s prayer to Swami.). She wanted Swami to give back Ramsetty so that they could take active part in Swami’s mission. After listening to Mrs. Ramsetty’s prayer from Madhu, Swami told Dr.Ramsetty standing next to Him, to go back. The rest of the story is to the astonishment of doctors the heart started beating, and Dr. Ram Setty’s body started once again became alive…

If events like this are not a proof to Swami’s presence in sukshma sareera, and if people still argue that what happens in SSG is a drama, one can only feel sorry for them.

Sairam.

Gurupoorinima Celebrations, 2015

                                 Aum Sri Sai Ram

               Gurupoorinima Celebrations, 2015 @ SSG

Venue: Sri Sathya Sai Hrudaya Mandiram.
            Sathaya Sai Grama, Muddenahalli.

30 July, 2015, 5: 15 PM, Thursday. (Gurupoornima Eve)

Main Items:
§  Talk by Sri B. Narasimha Murthy
o   He explained how Sathya Sai Grama [SSG] developed after Swami has come and settled down at SSG.
o   He talked about what a sadguru can do and the five benefits like, prosperity, enlightenment, etc., that are bestowed automatically on people by his grace. He touched upon what is happening at SSG to these five boons and pointed out how a ‘dayyaladinne’ (platform for ghosts), as SSG was once referred to, have become ‘Divine Dinne’ .
§  This was followed by Divine Discourse. Swami brought out an anology between body-mind-Atma and Earth-Moon-Sun elucidating the vedic mantra “chandramamanasojaathah, chakshosuryaajaayatha”. Mind is associated with Moon while the eye with Sun. The eye here is not the physical eye, it is the inner eye, the eye of wisdom, which is associated with Atma. Atma is self-effulgent like the Sun. The Moon’s effulgence is dependent on Sun. So also is the functioning of the mind is dependent on the Atma. Moon cannot shine without Sun and the mind can function without the Atma. Moon is attached to the Earth and goes round it. Mind is attached to the body and function through the body. There is no mind if there is no body. If the Earth is between the Sun and the Moon, Earth can see the brilliance of the Sun reflected in the Moon, and that will be the full-moon day. Where as, if the Moon is between the Earth and the Sun then it new-moon day. In the same way, when the body consciousness covers the Atma, mind will be in full, where as, the same mind will be powerless when the body consciousness does not cover the Atma. So the most important sadhana for dissipation of mind is to reduce the body consciousness.

§  Bharathanatyam by Smt. (Dr) Roshni Pillai Kesavan, Singapore (a medical doctor). She did 3 pieces – Siva Stotram:Nagendraharaya.; the marriage procession of Siva and Parvathi and Geethopadesam. One of the best presentations we have seen in Swami’s presence.

31st July 2015, Friday – 9.:30 Am to 12:30 PM

§  Bhagavan arrives at 9:30 AM to Sri Sathya Sai Hrudaya Mandiram.

Swami's Discourse on July 15, 2015

Aum Sri Sairam
Just as the oil is hidden unseen in the till seeds, the fragrance is hidden unseen in a flower, the sweetness is hidden unseen in a fruit, the fire is hidden unseen in wood, God is there every where in the universe. The subtle world unseen is the foundation for this gross world which we can see with our eyes. We can see the flower but we can’t see the fragrance. We can see the fruit but we can’t see the sweetness in the fruit.

When we look at a pieces of wood, we can’t see the fire, but only by following a procedure, we can make the fire manifest. Similarly if we want to manifest ghee which is hidden in the milk, we need to follow a procedure. Therefore if we want to experience God who is every where in this universe, we need to put an effort called Sadhana.

Sadhana is the effort and attempt that we make to experience God who is within ourselves. Ghee is already there in the milk, it is not that comes from somewhere else. Similarly oil is already there in the till seeds, it does not come from outside. So also, the fire is already there in the wood, it is not coming from somewhere else. Similarly Divinity is already there in the human beings. It does not come from somewhere else.

The Body is the temple of the God. The individual being in this body is itself God. In this gross body, God is there in the subtle form is the Divine form. Divinity will emerge in us only when we give up that which is not divine in our personality. When a sculptor sculpts a stone in order to bring out a statue, he removes all the part of the stone which is not statue and then only statue remains. The body made up of five elements is like a stone. The Divinity within this body is the sacred statue. Through sadhana, when we remove all that, which is not idol or statue, then we can see that statue. Only when we remove the negative qualities desire, anger, greed, pride, infatuation and jealousy, then God manifests in us as Sathya, Dhrama, Shanthi and Prema.

The four things food, sleep, procuration and fear are common for both humans and animals. Only Dharma differentiates man from animals. If man does not practice Dharma, he is worse than an animal. Coolness is the quality of water. Heat is the quality of fire. When fire becomes cold and water becomes hot, we can’t distinguish which is water and which is fire.

Out of the four goals of human life: Dhrama, Artha, Kama and Moksha, Dharma is the first and foremost goal to be achieved. The life of a human being is to earn the wealth through Dharma and to utilize the wealth for Dharma and also to fulfill the desire for liberation or Moksha. Depending on this, our scriptures declared desire for liberation is very important out of the 6 types of spiritual wealth. Dharma is that which gives us desire for liberation. All other rituals, which we practice, are only worldly activities. We can’t call them as true Dharma. But today’s men are misunderstanding real Dharma. They think that the Hinduism, Christianity, Buddhism or Islam as a Dharma. They think they are different. But fundamental Dharma is the Dharma of our heart.

If we want to practice Hrudaya Dharma, we have to listen to our heart and practise what it tells us. But the inner voice of heart is very subtle. When you are in a market, your wife calls you up and you pick up your phone and listen to your wife but because of the noise around, if she requests you to purchase potato, you misunderstands it as  tomato. Similarly in this market of world, due to the noise from outside, we are not able to hear the inner voice which is coming from inside.
Therefore at that time, we have to move out of the market place and go to a calm place and then we have to try to listen what the wife says. Similarly, we have to try to listen what our heart says from inside. That is constant integrated awareness. That is Sat-Chit-Ananda. It is always there in us. As we are not listening to it, we are not able to practice it.

As the mind is thinking all the time of I and mine, all kinds of noises are growing in the mind. Suppose we are sitting in our home and watching a program in the television, if there is lot of noise outside, we will not be able to listen that program. First thing we have to do at that point of time is to close the windows and doors of our home so that the external noise does not come inside and the second thing we have to do is to raise the volume of television. The human body is like a house. Body is called Dasaratha because of five senses of perception and five senses of action. Eyes, ears and nose are like windows through which noise can enter. So, we have to look at things which are good, we have to listen to things which are good and we have to go to places which are good. Therefore we have to develop self control in this way.

Sadhana is to control our mind, which always goes outwards and to make it go inward. When we make our mind move inward, we can see
SAI- See Always Inside.
When you See Always Inside, we have BABA
B-Being
A-Awareness
B-Bliss
A-Atman
Being, Awareness, and Bliss is Sat-Chit-Ananda. When we turn our mind inwards, we can experience BABA. This is true Sadhana.

First and foremost we have to control our body. The body is like a vessel. When the vessel in moving, the material inside the vessel also moves. So, yoga and dhyana are very necessary. Yoga is related to the body and meditation is related to the mind. Apart from the body, we also have to control our 10 senses. This is called as sama, dama.

Our mind is a bundle of thoughts. When we have sacred thoughts, we will have sacred mind. If we want to have sacred thoughts, sacred company is required. Through good company we can control our mind and body and this good company leads us to detachment. This is called Uparathi. Uparathi means to attach to good things only and to detach from bad things. When we are always in good company, we will get only good thoughts but not bad thoughts and we develop faith that God will look after us and He is always with us. This is Thithiksha. Thitiksha means knowing that God is giving just that much trouble which we can bear and tolerate. For getting Thitiksha, Shradda is required. Shradda in not just faith, it is a kind of bondage of love with God. When we think that God is our everything, then we develop Shradda. When we develop Shradda, we can gain Samaadhana. Continuous contentment is Samadhana.

So, we have to achieve these 5 kinds of spiritual wealth: sama dhama, Uparathi, Thitiksha, Shradda and Samadhana. Without these, we cannot develop desire for liberation (Moksha).
                 Good company is God's company.
See no evil, See what is good,
Hear no evil, Hear what is good.
Seek no evil, Seek what is good,
Think no evil, Think what is good
Do no evil, Do what is good,
This is the way to God.

Practice makes perfect. If we want to reach me, practice what I tell you.

Swami's Discourse on June 15, 2015

Aum Sri Sairam
People who know God think that He is beyond the three qualities, duality and also He is beyond all the feelings. Vedas declared that one cannot comprehend God and words cannot describe God.
Mind will never get ready to offer itself to God. Mind is always thinking of self interest and selfishness, it never thinks about others and welfare of others. We can drink milk only with a spoon but not with a fork. It is not possible to understand God with mind. There are two things in the mind. One is ego (I) and other one is attachment (mine).
All people keep praying to God: ”I want peace”. 'I' indicates me, "want" indicates mine and peace indicates Prasanthi. When we have the feelings of I and mine, we can never experience Peace. We can only understand, realize and experience peace only through pure and sacred heart. God cannot be comprehended by the mind. It is not possible to understand God by mind. Mind is always full of ego and attachment. But God is beyond this ego and attachment. Only a heart with selfless love can understand, experience and realize God. When a magnet is not attracting the piece of iron, the problem is not with the magnet. Iron piece is full of rust and dust. So, only iron does not attracts the magnet. Similarly a mind filled of ego and attachment cannot understand God‘s love. A person with fever will not be able to know the exact taste of the sweet. Similarly a man with ego cannot taste the sweet juice of service activities and says there is no bliss in the service.
 The word "SAI" signify’s
S - Service
A - Adoration
I - Illumination
Adoration without service is not at all an adoration. Anything first we have to do and then tell to others. God will always do and will never say. First we should be servants, then we gradually convert to leaders.
If we listen a thing, we forget it, if we see it, we understand it and if we do it, we learn it. Hence only when we do the service, we can learn, realize and experience the sweetness within the service. We are doing service for our sake. We should behave like a human being The three important things for human being are body, mind and heart. When all the three things: Head, Hand and Heart get together, we can do proper service.
We should become karma yogi like Janaka. Whatever we do, we should try to do perfectly because we are doing every thing for pleasing God ("Sarva Karma Bhagavath Preethyaratham”). God is perfect. Do your best and leave the rest. If we want to win the God’s grace, our effort is also important. We should put in our effort and should do our work perfectly. This is about Hands.
Second one is head. We should also have cleverness and intelligence. We should use our brain and intelligence to do good service to God.
All the three Head, Hand and Heart  are there in Hanuman. When Rama asked to cross the ocean to reach Lanka, everyone was afraid but Hanuman was ready and Hanuman said if Rama gives me a command, He also gives me  the strength to fulfill that command. Hanuman had such a great faith in Rama. That is Devotion. That is Heart.
It is not possible to jump all at once across the ocean to reach Lanka, So, Hanuman wanted to take rest in the middle for some time. When he was tired, he saw an island somewhere in the middle of the ocean. That island is a daemoness. She said to Hanuman ” I will give shelter on this island but I have one condition. You can rest on this island but you should get into my mouth and come out once". Hanuman knew once he enters into her mouth, she will swallow him. In such a helpless state, he prayed Rama, He then got a thought. Then gigantic Hanuman became like a small fly and entered into the mouth of the daemoness and came out immediately before she closed her mouth. Then daemoness said, "I did not want to harm you. You are a great devotee. I want to test you. You can rest on my head." So devotion is required and intelligence is also required. Intelligence comes from devotion. Therefore when all the things head, hands and heart come together, we will get liberation.
We should have the Head of Adi Sankara. He is the man of wisdom. We should have the Hand of Janka which offers everything to God. And we should have the Heart of Budha, which has compassion for all fellow beings.
First we should develop love for God. That is Bhakthi. That is the foundation. By developing Bhakthi, we will get Shakthi, Yukthi  and Mukthi. All should chant Gayatri mantra daily. First God manifested in the form of sound. There are three syllables in Omkaram. ‘Aa’ is body, ‘Uu’ is mind and ‘Ma’ is heart. When all these three come together, Omkaram will come. Gayathri mantra also signifies the same thing.  We should first chant Omkaram, next Gayatri mantra and then we have to chant Shanthi mantra three times. One shanthi is for peace in the mind, the second shanthi is for peace in the body and the third shanthi is for peace in the heart. All the three things: body, mind and heart get sanctified because of these chants.
Students should chant Gayatri mantra for 21 times daily at dawn or dusk.
There are three gunas: Tamasic, Rajasic and Sathwic.
Body is of Tamasic Guna (Inertia).
Mind is of Rajasic Guna (Passion).
Heart is of Sathwic Guns(Purity).
We have to follow the Sathwic guna, use Rajasic guna and give up Tamasic guna.
Each day of 24 hours can be divided into three eight hours. The eight hours from morning 4:00 AM to 8:00 AM and in the evening from 4.00 PM to 8:00 PM is Sathwic time. During Sathwic time, we should involve in Divine actions. The eight hours from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM is Rajasic time. During this time, we have to do activities like studying and playing. The eight hours from 8:00 PM to morning 4:00 AM is Tamasic time. During this time we should take rest and pacify our mind to be one with God.
Without doing, a teacher will not have the right to teach. If we want to correct others, first we be that, then we do that, then we see that and ultimately we should tell that.

Chinna Katha by Swami: 23 Jul 2015 discourse

SSG news: 23 July 2015

Chinna Katha.

Told by Swami on Thursday, 23 July 2015 17:45 PM @ Prem Deep.

Once there was a rich man. He had three wives. The first one was ‘Sathi’, very loving, dedicated and faithful. She had a daughter. But she was not that beautiful and looking elderly due to her age.
The second wife was ‘Mathi’. She was very intelligent and clever. The rich man always sought her counseling on any and every issue. She was good looing. She had three children.
The third one was ‘Rathi’. She was extremely beautiful but dull and inefficient. Since she was beautiful the rich man spent so much more time with her and she had ten children.

As the time passed by the rich man become old and his time to go arrived. He was scared of loneliness. He called his most loving wife Rathi and asked her whether would accompany him. She flatly refused saying that neither she nor her children would accompany him. They have acquired lots of things during his life time and they have to take care and enjoy them. So they wouldn’t even move out of the house with him.

The rich man then went to his second wife Mathi and asked her whether she or one her children would accompany him. She generously said that she and her three children would surely accompany him but up to the burial ground only and not a step beyond that.

Totally dejected, the rich man, having no choice, went to his first wife Sathi. He had not seen her for a long time. She had grown old and not much of beauty left in her, but she looked calm and peaceful. Love and compassion radiated for every inch of her body and soul for her husband. She was so happy that he had come at last. Ever before he could say anything, she asked in what way she could serve him. He made his desire known to her. She immediately, without any hesitation said that she would surely accompany him all through his journey. Not only that her daughter would also accompany him. The rich man realized the truth and his folly. They all the three left together.

Moral:
The last wife Rathi is body and her 10 children are five karamendriyas ( sense organs) and five gyanendriya ( senses). The second Mathi is the ‘mind’ or mans and her three children are Budhi, Chitta and Ahamkara. The first wife is Sathi is the Atam and her child is Ananda.
Recognize the real partner of your life and pay attention her.
